MEMtronics was incorporated in Texas in 2001 with the aim of commercializing MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) for RF applications at microwave and millimeter-wave frequencies. Many years were spent on the development of MEMS switching technology for high-frequency applications such as phase shifters and tunable filters. Over time, the cost and difficulty of manufacturing MEMS devices for RF applications proved a difficult barrier to the widespread deployment of the technology at microwave frequencies and above.
During the course of developing tunable filters for RF applications, MEMtronics developed the technology to manufacture high-performance, fixed-frequency, integrated filter technology for defense, aerospace, and 5G applications. These filters fulfill a unique niche in the filter market between traditional printed filters and custom machined metal cavity filters. Today, MEMtronics no longer manufactures RF MEMS, but does design, build, and ship a wide variety of fixed-frequency integrated filters.
